Nelson Neocleous holds an Economics degree and a Master’s in Development Studies. He served with the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance for many years, at the Departments of Labour Relations and Labour.Previously he had worked with the Coopers & Lybrand accounting firm and had held other jobs. He wrote reports on labour relations, wages and conditions of employ­ment, and on labour and employment legislation.He was visiting lecturer on labour relations and human resource management at the Mediterranean Institute of Manage­­ment for ten years. As director of the Department of Labour he was responsible for issues of employment and labour market, labour migration, free movement of workers, gender equality, protection against discrimination in employment, and disability care.He served as a member of various boards of directors. He often dealt with matters of ethics and norms, through participating in selection and disciplinary committees, and through overseeing procedures for the granting of projects to private companies. He is a founding member of the CyHRMA, then Cyprus Labour Relations Association, and an ex member of other Committees and Working Groups. He was the author of the basic draft of the labour relations principles of the Association. He did his obligatory military service in Cyprus, served during the emergency period of 1974, and continued for many years as a reservist.
